One type of office gadget I have been the most interested in is the fax machine. There’s just something about the way they look that interests me. They’re so sharp and modern looking. I also like the idea of sending a piece of paper from Point A to Point B. It’s kinda cool. Sadly, the fax machine is not used as often anymore. Obviously, I understand that e-mail is a much more practical alternative, but I still like the idea of faxes.
Sadly, this interest of mine in fax machines and office stuff seems unshared and rather unconventional, as I haven’t been able to find any other people online that has a particular interest or love for fax machines. On the plus side, I have found something fairly close that some people like – office supplies. It’s not exactly the same but close enough and fits the same theme, more or less.
It was late 2005, and I had a lot of nostalgia for late 2002. Of course, in late 2002, I was interested in getting a fax at some point. But that “dream” wouldn’t come to fruition for another three years. At last, we won a bid on eBay, and on December 27, 2005, I got my very first fax machine! It was also the first fax that had been in our house since 1997. The fax works except that it won’t take in paper, as something is out of alignment.
I got this machine in July 2011 at America’s Thrift Store. We needed to fax something, and the IntelliFAX 770 couldn’t reliably do the job since it can’t take in paper automatically, and if I hand-fed it, the faxes on the other end would often come out funny. Thankfully, as far as I can tell, the IntelliFAX 1270 works just fine. Interestingly enough, it’s the same model I originally wanted to get in 2005.
We don’t own this fax machine anymore, but this was perhaps one of the things that helped spark my interests in faxes. My dad got one of these around April 1994 for his home office and used it up until May 1997 when he quit his job and had to return a lot of company equipment. On the plus side, we still have the box.
